Standoff approach to MCM operations

Deltic’s partner, Exail, has pioneered a stand-off approach to mine countermeasure (MCM) operations that prioritizes crew and vessel safety by distancing them from hazardous minefields. At the core of this innovation is UMIS (Uncrewed MCM Integrated System)—a modular, multi-domain solution that unites aerial (UAV), surface (USV), and underwater (AUV and ROV) platforms, with the option to integrate towed assets such as advanced sonar systems.

Leveraging over 50 years of expertise in uncrewed maritime systems, UMIS brings these technologies together through a unified Command & Control architecture powered by the Umisoft software suite. This seamless integration enables safe, efficient, and autonomous management of expansive coastal and offshore environments.

Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are becoming indispensable tools in modern naval operations, playing a critical role in intelligence gathering, seafloor mapping, inspection, surveillance, and reconnaissance. Their versatility and ability to operate independently make them essential assets for informed military decision-making.

Exail’s military-grade AUVs are engineered for rapid deployment and ease of use. Operable by a small crew, they can be launched from ships, directly from shore, or from Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs) using a dedicated Launch and Recovery System (LARS). This flexibility allows forces to conduct undersea missions quickly, safely, and with minimal logistical footprint.

Mine Identification and Disposal (MIDS)

Sea mines, strategically deployed to threaten naval and commercial vessels, pose a persistent danger to global maritime trade and security. Their hidden nature endangers ships carrying critical goods, energy resources, and materials across international waters.

Deltic’s partner, Exail, has led the development of advanced Mine Identification and Disposal Systems (MIDS) for more than 4 decades. With the integration of modern uncrewed technologies, Exail now delivers the most capable MIDS solutions, utilizing sophisticated underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). Trusted by more than 25 navies worldwide, thousands of Exail MIDS units are deployed to ensure safe and efficient mine clearance operations across the world’s oceans.

Seascan

Seascan is a lightweight self-propelled ROV that boasts unparalleled hovering capability and stability, even in turbulent waters. Equipped with a high-resolution video camera and a reacquisition sonar, Seascan is dedicated to underwater mine identification, enabling long-range operations in challenging maritime environments.

Uncrewed Surface Vehicles

Detecting and neutralizing naval mines is critical to safeguarding national security and ensuring the safe passage of military and commercial vessels. As undersea threats evolve, so does the demand for advanced, stand-off Mine Countermeasure (MCM) solutions that keep crews out of harm’s way.

Exail’s Inspector range of Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs)—available through Deltic Group—delivers autonomous and remote capabilities for safe, efficient MCM operations. These versatile USVs can be deployed from shore, dedicated minehunters, or vessels of opportunity, offering unmatched operational flexibility.

Equipped with embedded AUV and MIDS payloads, the Inspector USVs seamlessly integrate with other Exail uncrewed platforms to support the full MCM mission cycle: detection, classification, and neutralization of naval mines and underwater threats. With exceptional endurance, speed, and modular design, they are built to meet the most demanding operational requirements while keeping personnel safely out of the minefield.

Degaussing Systems

Magnetic immunization, also known as degaussing, is a technique used to neutralize or reduce residual magnetic fields in equipment, such as ships and submarines. This process is critical in maritime and naval operations, where reducing magnetic signatures can lower the risk of detection by magnetic sensors, such as underwater mines. Degaussing plays a vital role in the maritime and naval context, particularly for military vessels that must navigate mine-threatened areas during missions or conflicts. By minimizing the magnetic signature of ships, this technique significantly reduces their vulnerability to magnetic mines.

Exail Degaussing Systems

Exail’s advanced degaussing systems are designed to enhance vessel safety and reduce detection risks effectively. Exail stands out in the industry for achieving magnetic signature values that comply with NATO standards while maintaining optimized onboard power consumption.

Exail’s Degaussing system features and capabilities:

  • Reduction of the overall ship magnetic signature
  • Modular system adaptable for a wide range of ships and submarines
  • Capability to design custom degaussing coils
  • Robust industrial design with back-up functionalities
  • Centralized or decentralized installation options
  • Intuitive operator interface
